My guest for Episode 028 of the Mountain Mantras: Wellness and Life Lessons show is Charlotte Hammond.
Charlotte is a Registered Dietician and yoga practitioner. Charlotte talks about mindful eating and her work with teens to overcome eating disorders. A great add on to Episodes 26 and 27 about mindfulness as well as our series of conversations with nutrition experts (Episodes 18 through 21).

Mantra #1: Being in a bad mood is expensive
Mantra #2: Space in between (breaths, thoughts, events, etc.) is where you find balance

Mantra #3: Breathe between bites
Mantra #4: Play with your food; get all your senses involved
Mantra #5: Eating should be relaxing, fun– a break! Take your time (20 minutes is needed on average for your stomach to send a signal to your brain that you are full)
Mantra #6: Follow Charlotte’s 3 tips for teens: 1) get sugar out of the liquids, 2) Focus on foods you can HAVE (not forbidden foods) and 3) Reframe our vocabulary around food to focus on quality (50% of meal should be low starch)
Mantra #7: Study your food bills; where can you save and where can you splurge?
Mantra #8: Follow Charlotte’s ABCs of dirty/clean eating around pesticides. ABC stands for Apples, Berries, and Celery (plus anything with leaves). Go for organic on the ABCs when possible.

More about Charlotte
Charlotte Hammond, MS, RD, LDN, RYT is a Registered Dietitian, Hatha Yoga instructor, and medical/scientific illustrator. Her integrative and functional nutritional expertise includes counseling for weight-loss, detoxification and longevity, anxiety and depression, chronic diseases (such as thyroid disorders, autoimmune challenges, cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and cancer), macrobiotic/plant-strong/paleo diets, and chronic fatigue.
She is currently a practicing Registered Dietitian, Hatha Yoga and Meditation Instructor, and private nutritional consultant. By day, she sees patients and runs the wellness programming and yoga studio at Aayu Clinics; by night and on weekends, Charlotte sees patients in her private practice, Eating with Ease LLC. Charlotte has previously served home-care patients with advanced diabetic management needs with Dietitians at Home, taught college-level nutrition at Le Cordon Bleu College of Culinary Arts, and has both inpatient and outpatient experience from the University of Illinois at Chicago Hospital and Health Sciences System and the Block Center for Integrative Cancer Treatment. She has taught Hatha Yoga and meditation at many studios and private locations in Chicago including Urban Lotus Yoga, Bend Yoga, Village Yoga, Kru Strength and Fitness, Urban Escape Healing, Aayu Clinics, and the Temple of Kriya Yoga, and is a member of both the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics and Yoga Alliance.
Charlotte is certified in Advanced Integrative and Functional Medical Nutrition Therapy and has Master’s degrees in Human Nutrition and Dietetics as well as Biomedical Visualization from the University of Illinois at Chicago. She earned a bachelor’s in Biology at Boston University. She is also certified to teach Kriya Yoga Meditation and earned her foundational yoga teacher training from the Temple of Kriya Yoga.
